Recently, I viewed the film documentary of Shirley Chisolm's "UNBOUGHT and UNBOSSED." In 1972, the Brooklyn NY congresswoman ran for president of the United States. Her campaign centered on diversity for economic opportunities. Unity for all people. Most importantly, change in the structure of the democratic process. Ms. Chisolm had a lot to say and didn't stop talking about her need to aid all Americans to become a greater part our government.Throughout the film, I could not help but think of Barack Obama. His speeches seem to be greatly influenced by the spirit of Ms. Chisolm. Certainly her political platform was solid with ideas as well as a plans of execution. However, Ms. Chisolm was a woman on the heels of the civil rights movement. She was also on the cusp of the women's movement in America. So many people admired her tenacity, but could not support her. The harsh war in Viet Nam was still heavily on the minds of U.S. citizens. "Bring the Boys Home," were the cries of the radio airwaves. To many Ms. Chisolm was a novelty act. Thus, few would support her financially or with their votes. Yet Ms. Chisolm did not concede until the morning of the nomination for the democratic presidential candidate, Senator George McGovern.
As Jada Pinkett Smith's character named Niobe, stated in the movie the, "MATRIX RELOADED," "Some things never change. And some things do." In November, as voting Americans let's make a change.
VOTE for BARACK OBAMA
